IT Report to Management - 6/4/2008
Greetings all!
It has been a long couple of days and I appreciate everyones patience.
The forums were moved to v.3.0.1 - phpBB has discontinued support for the v.2.x.x of the product, which we were running. I use the term moved, as this was not simply an update. These forums are completely new, with the old messages imported. No errors were reported during this process and a cursory check of the data indicates no problems. Additionally, v.3.0.1 is search engine friendly. A newer database engine, and data format should speed things up. This of course will be offset by the new features and GoogleBot, so don't expect to see much difference.
The Wiki had several patches applied. These were minimal and should not affect operation.
Site flow has been adjusted. The HTML homepage has been re-implemented. Due to changes in traffic and search engine listing, I feel it is beneficial. The site strives, from a technical perspective, to be as accessible as possible. To this end, both visitors and spiders should be presented 'just the facts'. The site should load on any browser, anywhere.
Sitemaps were generated, and submitted, to ensure search engines see everything that is here.
A more consistent theme was applied to the site to reinforce the cohesion of the sites individual elements. Call it branding, looking corporate, whatever; again, I feel it is beneficial.
By no means trying to lay down the law. Just doing my job... and trying to get the ball rolling a little.
